Flora and Fauna

The Bhutan Flora & Fauna Tours will visit some of the prime botanical sites in Bhutan Himalayas, a source of many of the highly prized plants introduced to horticulture. Over the years many experts and botanist visited Bhutan and their accounts & collections are one of the greatest sources of information in Bhutanese botanical studies as well as in any natural studies. Many of their collections have made the way to many European Gardens. Bhutan still remains largely unexplored. So far, about 4500 species of flowering plants has been documented. About 46 species of Rhododendrons grows wild in Bhutan and most of them blossom during the months of April, May and June.

Detailed Model Itinerary.

Day 01. Paro – Thimphu.

The flight into Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air, is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks, give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. Your Bhutanese escort from Authentic Bhutan Tours will greet you on arrival, and then drive you to the Paro Rimpung Dzong, the centre of civil and religious authority in this region. After this we will have lunch in the Paro town. Then we will drive toThimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The drive will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. On reaching Thimphu, we will do a short hike, (Sangaygang Cross Country)Wangditse Hike. The hike starts from BBS tower till Dechenphodrang, through pine forest. From this hike we can see the Thimphu town (Capital City) beautifully. The hike will take about 1hour 30minutes. Evening visit Tashi Chho Dzong, seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan) and stroll around Thimphu town. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel, Thimphu.

Day 02. Thimphu Halt.
Sightseeing in Thimphu – visit to Memorial Chhorten, Changangkha Lhakhang, Mothithang minizoo to see the National Animal of Bhutan (Takin), Zulikha Nunnery, Folk Heritage Museum and National Library. Lunch in Thimphu town. After lunch, visit Paper Factory, Weaving Center and then Authentic Bhutanese handicrafts. Then we will visit Bhutanese Farm House for dinner and Traditional Hot Stone bath. Over night stay at Thimphu Hotel or we can organize even in Bhutanese Farm House.

Day 03. Thimphu – Punakha/Wangdi
After our breakfast we will drive to Punakha, the winter residence of our central monastic body over Dochula pass (3150m) above sealevel. This pass is adorned with 108small stupas and many kids of prayer flags. From this pass we will hike down till the road point through Rhododendron trees. We can see many species of Rhododendrons through this hike. On reaching Lamperi, we will visit Lamperi Botanical Garden; it has cool broad leaf forests, mixed conifer forests, fir and sub-alpine forests and the temperate rain forest with hundreds of species of fauna. Lunch will be served here as picnic lunch. Then continue our journey to Punakha/Wangdi. On reaching Lobesa, we will hike to Chhimi Lhakhang, the temple of fertility. The temple is located at a hilltop and we have to hike through paddy fields and farmhouses.
Dinner and over night stay at Punakha.

Day 04. Punakha Stay.
Today after breakfast, we will visit Punakha Dzong, the most magnificent dzong in Bhutan and then we will hike to Khamsumyule Namgyel Chhorten. Then on our way back, we will hike beside the Mo Chhu River until the dzong. Lunch will be served at the riverside.
Stroll around Punakha town.
Evening at leisure.
Dinner and over night stay at Punakha Hotel.

Day 05. Punakha – Phobjikha.
After our breakfast in the hotel, we will drive to Phobjikha valley; it is a glacial valley and is the winter home of the black necked cranes-the rare species bird in the world. On reaching Gangtey, we will visit Gangtey Goenpa Lhakhang, one of the most important monasteries in Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism in Bhutan. Then we will do Gangtey Natural Trail Hike, it is one of the best hike places for the Nature lovers. During the winter months, we can see the endangered species of birds – Black Neck Cranes. Lunch will served at Hotel Phobjikha. After lunch we will walk through the valley. Evening at leisure.
Dinner and dover night stay at Phobjikha Hotel.

Day 06. Phobjikha – Paro.
Today we will drive to Paro. At Tagchho Gang, we will visit the Tagchho Gang Moastery, which is dedicated to Tamdrin, the wrathful form of Chenrigzi, the god of compassion. Lunch will be served at Paro. After lunch we will visit Ta Dzong and then we will do the hike, which starts from above Ta Dzong and ends at UmaParo Hotel. Stroll around Paro. Dinner and over night stay at Paro Hotel.

Day 07. Paro Stay.
Today we will hike to the famous Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), the one most sacred and spiritual sites in the Buddhism world. Lunch will be served at Taktshang Cafe.
On our way back, we will visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest monastery in Bhutan. Evening at leisure.
Dinner and over night at Paro hotel.

Day 08. Paro – Paro Airport.
Drive to Paro International Airport for your return flight. Your Bhutanese Guide and Driver will bid you fare well here at the Airport. We wish you a very safe and pleasant journey back to your country. We will hope to see you again.
